💃 Urban Rec is in town 🕺

One of our biggest partners from Sydney has made the exciting move to Melbourne 🎉

Our friends in Sydney will tell you that Urban Rec is one of the best competitions around, with great games, great vibes and great people 😎

Who is Urban Rec?

Urban Rec is one of our longest running competition partners, who are all about getting active, being social and having a great time! Their competitions are specifically for people who might be new to sport, or haven’t played in a long time. Their aim is to re-ignite the ‘fun’ in sport and help you to get the most ‘social’ out of ‘social sport’.

Instead of referees and umpires, Urban Rec have Event Hosts, who go through the rules with everyone in the first week and will continue to help coach you through the season.

Urban Rec offer a range of different sports, including netball, basketball, 5-a-side soccer, multisport + more!

What is multisport?

Multisport is perfect for someone who either can’t decide what they want to play - or the person who wants to try it all!

In co-ed (or mixed) teams of 5 you play a variety of sports throughout the season, (with the same team each week). The sports are generally a mix of soccer, dodgeball, hockey, handball, touch, basketball, Oz-tag, volleyball and netball. The Event Host helps coach each team on the rules, and how to play before the games each week.

Hockey hits Melbourne

That’s right, hockey has hit town too 🙌

Urban Rec is bringing you mixed 5 v 5 hockey in North Melbourne. This comp is great for people who played hockey in school, or are looking for a way to dip your toes into the sport with a bit of hand-holding.

Nothing but net(ball)

Urban Rec have a truly recreational take on netball, so if you’re after a low-stakes, super chill level of netty, this is a great option for you. As with most of UR’s leagues, this mixed comp is designed to be welcoming to absolute beginners, so you can expect a relaxed environment with Event Hosts ready to talk you through the game, and certain rules aren’t enforced as strictly as some other competitions.

5-a-side soccer

These mixed competitions are great for all-rounders, beginners, or people who don’t want to take the game too seriously. Urban Rec offer 5-a-side outdoor soccer or grass pitches and artificial turf, so if you don’t want the fancy shoes you can just wear your normal runners. Due to the small pitch size, you’ll get a go playing all different positions, and don’t worry, no one expects you to be good at all of them.

Basketball baby

The most chill of outdoor basketball comps, this mixed league is where legends are made, laughs are had, and losers don’t exist (it says so on their website). This competition is a great entry (or re-entry) to basketball as it’s much more informal and certain rules aren’t as enforced as strictly as other basketball comps, so you can get to know the game better. It’s all the fun of basketball with none of the pressure.
